Chepelare is the town with the
highest altitude in Bulgaria.
It is situated at an
altitude of 1100 meters in
the mountains on
both banks of the river Chaya.
To the delight of lovers of winter sports snow lasts longer - up to 120 days. Chepelare is located 10 km. north of the resort of Pamporovo and 75 km. Plovdiv. Ski center of "Mechi Chal" consists of several ski runs with total length of 22 km. which are among the best alpine routes in Europe. The runs are serviced by a new four seat lift with a capacity of 2000 people per hour. Here are the most appropriate country trails for cross country skiing and biathlon. An interesting tourist attractions are the dog sledges and also the route for snowmobiles with length 35km. The winter sports enthusiasts can enjoy the two new ski lifts, snow cannons and artificial snow system.Near the town has many interesting places such as "The Wonderful Bridges", the preserved area "Momchilovski dol" , The Smolyans’ Lakes, Orpheus rocks and many others.
